Exit Slip Lesson 8

1.Why is it necessary for us to combine two formulas?

Because we may want to add another can and that would include another surface area. I may add another can to change the height.

2.Connection: What would you need to do if you apply the same skill to your can?

Because I may want to change the height of my can and i would need to also change the surface area also. So we need to know how to simplify each formula.

  1. 1. It's true that we're looking for another height for your new design, but that doesn't explain why we're solving the volume formula for height and then substituting the expression in the surface area function. We're doing that to eliminate the height as an independent variable to make it dependent on radius. That way, we only have one independent variable for the surface area function.
